With character as complex as its grain bill, Heraclitus is bold, bright, and a bit boozy — yet far smoother than you might expect. Fermented with wildflower honey and aged on oak soaked in Devil’s Due 4-Year Straight Bourbon, it opens with hints of vanilla before giving way to subtle Maduro tobacco on the finish.

Sample at brewery:
I initially found this beer a nice mix of base style and barrel aging. As I got back to it, it was a tad thin and woody-tannic. I think it is close to being quite good. But it fits into a barrel-aged porter that needs just a bit more body.
I hesitate to say that, as I am fond of stouts/porters that have a lighter feel. But the true roasted malt notes that can make up for feel on my palate are a tad light here. I feel a minor adjustment to increase the roast level would produce an outweighed rating boost from me.

Had on tap at the brewery. This is a bad, big American imperial stout. Huge amount of dark roasted malt, bitter coffee, dark chocolate, and bitter C-hops. Hot, boozy mouthfeel. Overall it's rough around the edges and definitely the type of beer you have to be in the mood for, or you aren't likely to enjoy it.
