Appearance: Obsidian black with a modest tan head.
Aroma: Rather sweet caramel aroma, reminiscent of Kraft caramel candies.
Taste: Begins with dark malts (chocolate and black, according to the description) and a distinctly earthy note. Hops soon appear and linger to the end of the taste, which is a bit tart and slightly acidic.
Mouth feel: Smooth, but seemed a bit thin.
Drinkability/notes: This seemed fairly good, although I have tried few examples of the style.
Sampled at the Texas Craft BrewerÂ’s Festival on June 7th, 2003.
