Right*O*Way IPARight*O*Way IPA
Notes: Right-O-Way IPA is brewed as a Session India Pale Ale with citrusy hops and floral aromas. These flavors, with the addition of lightly kilned malts and moderate hop bitterness, make Right-O-Way a refreshing and easy drinking beer. The sessionable 4.6% abv makes this one of the “easier” beers we’ve ever made. Enjoy it in your favorite glass or straight out of the bottle. Either way, make it Right-O-Way.

SOUTHERN TIER RIGHT-O-WAY IPA 7/2/16

From the Pack O' Pales twelvepack.

Poured from the 12 oz. bottle into a Samuel Adams IPA glass.

a: Clear dark gold/amber with an inch thick white head which receded to thin surface foam and spotty lacing,

s; Nothing notable.

t; Mainly biscuit malt with a mild to moderate hop bite with no especially obvious flavor. Dry finish.

m: Medium, good body and carbonation tingle.

o: A pleasant dinner brew, substantial yet refreshing and easy drinking. Those for whom highly hopped IPAs are too bitter are likely to find this one agreeable.

Pours a pale copper color with a short creamy head. Left a short wall of lacing on the glass.

The aroma is a light grapefruit and pine hop. A bit soapy.

The taste is of a light grapefruit and grapefruit rind. Some general fruitiness and a hint of pine.

The feel is light almost watery. Fizzy carbonation. It's dry on the palate and lightly bitter.

Nice light hop flavor. A bit too light both in flavor and body.

Appearance: Very attractive rich rose gold color, thick white cap, very good lacing.

Aroma: Citrus, floral and conifer hops, underlying malt presence.

Taste: Hops first followed by mild malt presence. Good medium to full texture in a pleasing way. I don't detect sweetness but there a rich malt presence. Hops follow through and linger in the aftertaste which, while crisp, is clean with little hop bitterness. Well put together, this.

Texture: Medium full.

Overall: A lot to like and little to criticize, well, perhaps critical is too strong a word because the closest to negative I can come is say I would've liked a bit more pronounced malt presence. Fits the IPA model but so do a lot of others.

Golden, cloudy body; thick, creamy head; white rings of lacing down the glass. Citrus and pine aroma; sweetness. Lemon and grapefruit flavors; bitter. Medium body with a soft, watery quality; dry finish.

A decent IPA that comes across with a strong, biting bitterness but little depth or complexity with the grain elements.

A solid session IPA. Local to me and I personally enjoy this beer. It's a go to in my favorite glass at home as well as out the bottle. Has great floral and citrus aromas as soon as you pop the top. Slight bitterness with a decent malt backbone. Simple and pleasant mouthfeel. Quite refreshing and an easy drinker...

Appearance is very good yellow amber with a fine head and lacing.

Taste is well balance floral and citrus with some piney aftertaste.

Crystal clear with a pale copper color. The head dissipates quickly to single layer of rim bubbles. Very few spots for lace.

The nose starts off with a strong dose of caramel...lightly sweet. Very mild hop notes in the background.

The body comes across to me as a bit thin and watery. Above average carbonation. This causes the caramel malt flavors to be muted. The bittering hop is stronger on the tongue and dominates the swallow. Moderate aftertaste.

This is a decent session IPA for those that like English style IPAs. The beer poured a slightly hazy golden with white head that left good lacing. The scent is bitter. The Taste was bitter from start to finish. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it was ok.

This is a citrusy, bitter-at-the=end IPA which is modeled after ST's regular IPA -- basically has the same taste, but less alcohol. Certainly fine, but we're not crazy about.

Pours a chill hazed pale amber producing almost 3 fingers of beige, foamy, moderately lasting head that leaves a nice thick coating of chunky & spidery lace. Aroma is earthy floral hops & bready caramel malt with a hint of toast & lemon rind. Taste is up front floral & earth with a hint of lemony citrus emerging at mid-sip accompanied by thin pine in the finish all backed by subdued caramel/slight toasty maltiness. Aftertaste is resinous pine & citrus pith bitterness that intensifies & lingers long in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate-high carbonation, cotton ball heavy & dry.

Poured into a perfect pint. Kinda crazy that a "session beer" is clocking in at 4.6%.

4.0 A: Lightly hazed light orange color. Two fingers of frothy beige head. Retention is very good and speckled lacing covers the whole glass.

3.75 S: Bready with primarily herbal hops. I'm getting quite a bit of jasmine out of this and something like fresh basil. I don't know where the advertised "citrusy hops" are. Lightly toasty as well.

3.75 T: Pleasantly hoppy which is again herbal in nature. Still getting lots of jasmine. Mild-moderate bitterness. Toasty with a biscuit finish.

3.5 M: Light to lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Light, pleasant creaminess that drinks well.

3.75 D: It's not a bad beer and it is easy to drink.

Right*O*Way IPA - Southern Tier Brewing Company. Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, this beer's head is two fingers thick and off-white, with secular lacing, and a medium-dark clear body.

I smell more citrus-like hops and a bit of bright malts.

The taste has a very good balance of the aforementioned elements. Not much malt characteristics going on here, but its expected per this style.

The mouthfeel I'm getting here is smooth and crisp.

Overall, I'll give Right*O*Way IPA - Southern Tier Brewing a 4.This came as part of a mixed 6 pack I got for my birthday back in July of this year, so I don't if its available in my area per se.

This is a really good example of a decent American variant IPA, without trying to hop your face off or seek obscene high alcohol levels.

The beer pours easily, resulting in a slightly cloudy amber glass that belies the 'pale' expectations. The head dissipates quickly, and there is not much aroma, so the first taste is a pleasant surprise - this is a tasty, slightly hoppy, somewhat citrusy ale with more complexity than expected.

Whilst not on a par with the excellent Bell's Two Hearted for complexity and character, this sessionable ale is very agreeable and drinkable. It is a fine example of the West Coast IPA and one I would happily seek out on a regular basis - especially as decent IPAs with only 4.5% ABV are relatively uncommon.

It's also good enough for me to keep an eye our for Southern Tier's other beers, to sample when opportunity permits.

For what it is, it's really good. A nice change of pace from the watered-down fractional/session IPAs I've tried lately. Hazy (unfiltered?) yellow/orange with subtle carbonation and a moderate (rather than thin) mouthfeel. Very nice initial hops on the tongue that mellows to a hint of warm, buttery malt at the end. Very unique flavor profile for its type. Worth trying.

No date.
Pours a mild fluffy creamy like semi thick 1 finger head that fades at a med pace, leaves a nice sticky lacing, hazy murky almost sediment laden bright orange color.

Nose smells a bit old unfortunately, but can't tell since there's no date, but that also could be Southern Tier's style, a little sweet caramel candy malt, grassy slight floral and slight earthy hops, swirling it and letting it open brings a bit more nicer hops, floral little musty and fruity, candied stone fruit with sweet malts, apricot, hint citrus, and touch of spicy hop.

Taste brings sweet malts out front again, typical Southern Tier malt heavy, lots of sweet candy malts, caramel notes, amber malts mostly, etc. Then hops, again typical ST hops, fruity with grassy spicy hops, little earthy, hint pine and musty, candied fruit again, apricot and candy orange like, back into a sweet fruity malt. Finish is sweet sticky, candied hops little candied stone fruit, mild earthy spicy hops, little musty note, etc.

Mouth is med bod, nice carb at least, little sticky syrupy.

Overall, session my @ss!!! This is sweet, sticky, tons of malts, bitter spicy like hops, not very drinkable for a session IPA.

Appearance: Semi-cloudy amber, with a frothy bone white head. Fine tree-line lace.

Aroma: Nice tropical and citrus hops. Appealing!

Taste: Very citrus-hoppy here, with a nip of bitterness at the finish. Quite a nice and tasty hop character with Right-O-Way — not a complex trip, but more than drinkable. I’d easily enjoy more of these.
