This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a glossy pale/burnt orange color with a thin white foamy head that quickly dissipated. A one ring lacing clings nicely around the glass. The smell takes the rose hips, mostly dry and quite floral with some slight earthy, grassy and piney hops. Some sweet Belgian malt, bready yeast and subtle Belgian spice slide in underneath. Light banana. The taste favors the previously mentioned flavors and definitely has the dry floral to banana aftertaste. Quick dry floral to piney finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a good sipping quality to it due to the dryness. Since I’m thinking because I’m having this a bit aged, ABV most likely has dropped so I’m not feeling the effects. Overall, as a Belgian Strong ale, it definitely works. I’d have this again, nice one.

L: A clear straw colored pour supports a 3” persistent clingy white foam collar with a very fien bead. S: fruity, herbal, first a blast of rose hips – also have kind of a tropical citrusy note. T: Biscuit, spicy, hop accent on the end – bitter and alcohol on the finish, very perfumey, floral, the finish is nice and fruity, rose hippy, citrusy. The rose hips come across as tropical and citrusy. The hops are soft, well represented but not aggressive. F: Very creamy with a nice crispness O: The flavors are very well matched and blended and the alcohol well hidden.

Poured from a bomber into a tulip glass

L: Pours a semi-opaque amber color with 2 fingers of off-white head. Nice lacing on my glass. Looks delicious.

S: Sweet malts and floral and citrus hops. A little herbal, possibly the rose hips.

T/F: Strong malt backbone nicely balances the citrus and floral hops. A little on the herbal/floral side, again possibly related to the rose hips. Very clean and well carbonated. A bit of alcoholic warmth coming through at the finish and no surprise at 9% ABV.

O: This is a delicious Imperial IPA, and one that stacks up well with the West Coast big boys while tasting a little bit different. Probably the best beer I've had by Southern Tier, and one that I'll be seeking out again.

VERY strong, interesting brew. The rose hips come out loud and strong. Not widely distributed.
