Served in a Southern Tier tulip and paired with a steak dinner at Forte in Jamestown, New York. Pours an auburn red with a 1 finger off-white head with clumping lacing and good retantion. Nose is rock candy, saccharine fruits, sweet red wine, and raspberry. The palate opens with notes per the nose, but with an added, almost cognac aftertaste. These further give way to a sweet malt body accented by fruit and licorice. Mouthfeel is medium-thick. Overall, an excellent brew. Not a dead ringer for a typical Quad (there's decidedly less belgian yeast here than I would expect), and not a beer I would go out of my way to find, but a solid beer in its own right nonetheless

On tap at POPE in Philadelphia. Smells like cheap glue sniffed by kids in the streets of Mexico City, plus some oxidation. Tastes like glue and chestnut puree with a coca-cola reduction.

A quad ale? This could be anything. To me it tastes like a poorly-brewed winter ale. Really close to terrible.
