Pours a darker, warm brown color with a bigger, noisy beige head.
Smell is of hazelnuts, wet earth, lighter caramel and dried garden herbs. This got an additonal layer of old wood on the nose, together with a complimenting, lighter smokiness.
Drinks light and refreshing with a vivid, slightly metallic carbonation among a light body.
Tastes of caramel which immediately gets toned down by bakers chocolate, dry, herbal hops and matured oak. This establishes an intriguing balance, allowing for roasted nuts, lighter ham and campfire smoke to join in. Finishes a little sweeter with a well dosed toffee nuance, more oak and a whiff of dried figs among herbal, slightly dry hops.
I can‘t remember when I had my last Brown Ale, which is a real shame, since this is pretty good. Well refined, complex, unique even due to its Oak characteristics, this drinks wonderfully refreshing and balanced.
