Brewed in 2019 and released early in 2020, I first tasted this on Christmas 2020 and then described it as “oaky and vinous, reminiscent of Gales Prize Old Ale”. In January 2023, I sank another bomber from the same bottling and the intervening couple of years has allowed the brett character to more fully develop. It has a pear like front, a well attenuated sourish middle and a bone dry finish.

HOPS: Magnum / Centennial / Citra / Ekuanot

MALT: Canadian 2 Row / Maris Otter / Medium Crystal / Black Prinz

YEAST: Primary: Chico Secondary: Brett C + several Brett Brux strains

Described, by Strange Fellows on the label, as a barrel-aged brett IPA, it promises ‘rich with hints of chocolate and fig’, all of which is long gone, but what remains is a sophisticated and credible tipple which would score highly in any blind taste test.
