Hazy gold-tan color. Poured a short head that was gone in seconds. Some bubbles on the side of the glass, but it was too hazy to see deeper action. No lacing.
Mildly sour funk scent with some old red apple and nutmeg adjacent spice. Some citrus showed up later, a mix of orange and lemon. Swirling the glass kicked up a light barnyard that was gone in seconds.
Starts off with a swirl of flavors that kept replacing each other: some fruit (mostly citrus), some odd flavors I couldn't identify. Slightly sweet while also mildly tart. Some mildly bitter tannins. The initial aftertaste was bacon. Then some apple showed up. Apple cured bacon? Then the tannins settled in for a long time and only got disloged by another mouthful. At one point there was a bit of iodine as the aftertaste died down.
Almost no carbonation. What little there was at the start was gone after a few more mouthfuls. Somewhat astringent. Left my mouth and teeth feeling a bit fuzzy.
This is one of the stranger beers I have had in a while. The brewery calls it lambic-like. It might lend itself to blending with a saison to brighten it up a bit.
Overall I am quite happy with this brewery. They are not shy from trying out various experiments. There are a small number of local breweries that are trying to push the envelope to emulate the Belgian experience.
