May 13th, 2015 - My notes for this beer have been crumped beyond legibility, but I have a vague memory of a tasty Scottish Brew, thick and sweet. Maybe a little too much so, but with the list of IPAs dominating the menu today, this is a nice darker and stickier break from the hop-fest.

With a straight brown color, it’s way too bitter, even too roasty, for the style! It’s as though it’s a very bitter hoppy beer despite it’s supposedly low IBUs. While it has the caramel and biscuit flavors, it’s barely visible amid the stickily piney-like aftertaste that overpowers the beer. In terms of this style, I highly recommend the Kilt Lifter from Moylan's Brewing Company in Novato and especially Four Peaks Brewing Company in Tempe, Arizona (Don't let the not-so-classy beer name discourage you. Those are good beers!). If you like some peat with your beer, I recommend Sprecher Brewery’s Piper’s Scotch-style ale, Ale Smith's Wee Heavy and even Belhaven Brewery’s Wee Heavy. There's also Bear Heart from Bear Roots Brewing in Vista.
