Very dark brown with amber edges and fluffy off-white foam in the Copper Kettle goblet. Very light body. There is a scent of something like caramel. It tastes like it's halfway to being a beer, something raw and unfinished.
Dishwatery and grainy. There is even a sourish edge, like a touch of charcoal. It's more burnt than roasted. Very dry finish with a surprsing bitter aftertaste. This is really quite unpleasant stuff. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at The Goose market on Whidbey Island.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a thin brown head that dissipates to a bare ring around the glass with no significant lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt with light char, coffee, mild dark chocolate and a hint of caramel; nice. Flavor is dark toasted malt, drip coffee, bitter chocolate; finishes with dark toasted malt and coffee bitterness with a touch of cocoa and an unfortunate slight tartness. Medium bodied with light creaminess. This smells great and starts out with decent dark malt with coffee and light chocolate notes, but finishes somewhat thin and with a mild sour note that takes the flavor down a notch. The initial impression is good, and I'd try this again to see if maybe I got a slightly off bottle.

Fruity ( to me like grapes) on the tongue. Strong coffee aftertaste. Does not linger. Overall good blend of taste into aftertaste.
