Whoa this was a great coffee-forward imperial stout. Very pleasantly surprised as I'm used to these stouts being more chocolate-heavy, or fudgy, or even bitter/acidic. This one hit all the right notes. Canned date 6/26/19. Pours a great-looking deep, dark, rich black color with a little tan head and small rings of lingering lacing. Smells incredible, rich mocha and dark roast coffee, caramel, nuts, toast, vanilla, toffee, brown sugar and malt. Taste follows the nose, with great balance and depth and complexity. Loved the dark coffee richness without too much overpowering chocolate. Smooth, chewy, sticky, rich mouthfeel and just the right amount of carbonation. An outstanding imperial stout from a solid brewery.

Midnight black body topped with a relatively thin yet lasting head. Big charred grain and coffee ground aroma; bitter chocolate; more coffee. Huge flavor combination; coffee and milk chocolate; toffee; burnt sugar; caramelized sugar; strong bitterness. Medium-heavy body; kind of watery; silky and smooth; bitter dryness offset with some residual sugar sweetness.
This is a quadruple collaboration beer between an Iowa brewery and coffee roaster (Pulpit Rock Brewing Co. and Impact Coffee Bar & Roasters) and San Diego (Abnormal and Bird Rock Coffee Roasters). In a nutshell, this beer brings the dark beer sweetness (i.e., sweet stout) and heavy coffee presence (well, the two coffee roasters). An excellent tag team effort...
