Huge, beige head from the can. Slow to recede (in a lumpy fashion). Good 3D lacing on the glass. The liquid is dark brown where light shines faintly along the edge.
More chocolate than cherry. Some candied malted milk ball smells. Light alcohol.
Quite dry considering the smell which makes the bitterness stand out a little more. I think I'm picking up some black patent malted bitterness. Neutral body with a lowered carbonation labor. No notable cherry flavors. I also don't pickup any alcohol in the taste. The finish is closest to dark chocolate. Dry and ashy aftertaste.

Sampling a cellar temp 12 oz can poured into my snifter. Picked up at the brewery.
The beer pours a clear cola brown color with a fizzy beige head of 1 cm foaming up after the pour. This foam fades to a sturdy surface layer that remains through the sampling.
The aroma is malty with some light toasted malt notes and a bit of sweet chocolate, a light charred wood note as well. I think I get a little cherry, or maybe Im convincing myself of that piece. The nose is kind of mild and there arent any hop characters nor any hint of booziness here. Generally good nose, would be better with a little more boldness.
First sip reveals a medium body with very fine and tingly carbonation. Texture is smooth and the beer drinks very easy on the physical side of things.
Flavor is similar to nose some sweet chocolate, then toasted grains and again light charring. I do get a bit of light fruit, but not sure Id identify it as cherry if I didnt know it was there. the charred wood note returns on the finish and I dont get any hop character here either.
This is a very drinkable smoke porter that isnt too heavy with burnt notes or smoked bacon. I like it and am glad I bought a 6er.

A: opaque; dark brown in color; 1 finger medium brown head that receded to a thick collar; little lacing;
S: deeply roasted grain first, then smoke takes over;
T: balanced between deeply roasted grain and smoke from start to finish; cherry in the background, but I don't think I would taste the cherry if I wasn't looking for it; mild to moderate bitterness at the end;
M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; lightly dry finish;
O: wanted more cherry;

Always got the good local stuff at high fives in New London CT. Good dark color, with a great flavor. A very nice winter option on a cold day! High quality beer

Dark brew; tan head with good retention.
Roasty and sweet aroma; just a touch of smoke.
Plenty of smoke on the palate immediately. Smooth, light milk chocolate; slightly sweet; a touch of banana; roasty finish. Very smooth. Any cherry really just falls into the malt and wood smoke.
Fairly thick and smooth; very drinkable.

32oz growler from the brewery. Pours a very dark brown with over an inch of frothy light brown head. Lots of lacing. The aroma is smoked cherrywood, light chocolate, charcoal and earth. The taste is cocoa nibs followed by smoked malts and some coffee.The cherry comes out more towards the end. Woody and earthy finish with more smoke. The cherry and smoke balance each other out fairly well, but it's a bit sweeter than I would like. Lots of carbonation with a somewhat lighter mouthfeel. Overall, a decent beer for Autumn.
