another tasty outer light beer, these guys are hitting for me right now across a range of styles and ambitious recipes. this one is a new zealand pils, a nice vibrant hop profile in a rather light base beer, clean and hoppy without really being that bitter, its a dry hop thing, and the fruitiness is popping, white wine, meyer lemon, kiwi fruit, green melon, is juicy and summery and carrying a just a little bit of richer pils malt character, not toasted but not totally minimal either, dry at the end but not as snappy as some of these, which i think is fine because it leaves a little bit more run room for the hops on the back end, i think a smart recipe decision that doesnt end up limiting drinkabilty even a little bit. green grape and melon to me in the flavor, the grain is all up front and the hops are all later on, lemongrass and just a whisper of bitterness. some orange candy as it warms but not sweet, a floral layer that makes it springy, and a nice mineral profile underneath it all. simple base beer with an almost neutral yeast for this style, it really is all about the hops. nicely dosed in here, relatively fresh, and a fine example of an emerging style that i am really digging. these hops do so well in lighter beers, and this is a fine showcase of that. it could use a bit more carbonation in my opinion, i want this to really dance and its short of that, but real solid overall.
