old school kind of fruit beer, but with a little intrigue. i dont think its made with actual berries, for one they arent in season, but for two it has that perkins syrup kind of flavor that really cant come from actual berries, but its not too sugary, its not overdosed, and the fact that the base beer is a decent kolsch works in its favor, and i could see this being a good mover for them in patio weather. a little deeper brassy tone to this, tempered shine, the faintest pinkish tint, average white head from the tap, fine carbonation. it smells like generic berry candy, blackberry as much as blueberry i suppose, maybe they use both? a definite sort of cheapness to it which is a shame, but the base beer has enough to it to keep me interested, a german note to the grain, a perhaps cooler fermented briskness, without the fruit this would be snappy and bright. the flavor has a cheapness too, some up front sweetness, berry candy and fruit punch, purple popsicle, that sort of thing, some bready grain, a european vibe still coming through, and a quicker than anticipated finish. not my type of fruit beer, but i can see the appeal, this is outdated and nowhere near their best work, but its also a mindless crowd pleaser which every brewery needs right?
