pint on tap at the brewery on June 18, 2019

L: hazy light gold, darker than yellow but not by much; big head of white foam; just a little sticking and lacing

S: sweet bready malt, light grassiness, light floral note ... the combination of malt/hops gives it a sweet perfumey aroma

T: buttery ... the butter note is front and center and permeates all the other notes; grassy hop bite, sweat bread malt, some residual lemon peel/earthy yeast as the bitterness builds up

F: crispy, light, simple but effective

O: the butter note and haziness does suggest a kellerbier more than a pilsener; I don't like it but that's just a personal preference; it's well made and anybody looking for a keller-type beer might love this one; I'm scoring it for myself as a pilsener just for reference's sake

Saaz hopped Keller pilsner. Taproom exclusive at Live Oak. Served on-draught.

Pours a murky yellow. Head sits for 5 minutes before receding but is a scant 1cm in height.

Aroma: Grassy hop character. Less Saaz spiciness than I expected. A hint of smoke. Pils malt. Slight breadiness. Rather inviting.

Subtle Saaz spice. Dry grass. Some slight breadiness. Clean pilsner malt. Finishes quite spicy. Clean and refreshing, with no unbunged wort flavours or oxidation. Hints of crackery malt. Does have musty Kellerbier flavours, coming off rich and vitaminy without tasting dirty or flat.

Mouth feel is coarse, dry, and somehow refreshing. Medium-bodied. Not oily, gushed, astringent, harsh, or otherwise off. Its dryness accentuates the spiciness of the Saaz hops.

A pleasant panEuropean pilsner that successfully marries Czech hops with a German Kellerbier like build and ostensibly Italian yeast. Very drinkable, though I can't say it rivals the best traditional pilsners out there (though I do prefer it to Live Oak's own Pilz and Gold).
