A namesake dedication to the old German city of Bamberg, where smoke beer remains king, alive and well. This amber lager is a righteous example of the beechwood smoked lager style, balanced and clean. 4.8%, 24 IBU

On-draught @ Live Oak.
Clear copper body. Appears filtered, bereft of any sediment or lees. Looks well carbonated.
Tastes subtly smokey - probably just beechwood if I had to guess. Cleanly smokey with no ashy or harsh flavours. Doesn't evoke bacon or smoked meat, just clean beech smoked malt almost certainly from Weyermann. Not too sweet; well attenuated.
Perfectly carbonated. Crisp but soft. Smooth, wet, almost a biteen savory.
A well balanced lager, though one can imagine it better with deeper more complex and pungent smoke flavours.
More a smoked beer for the lager enthusiast, not a smoked beer for the rauchbier enthusiast. I wouldn't buy a sixer if Live Oak's other (i.e. better) smoked beers were available, but good on Live Oak for bringing another smoked beer to the starved American market. I'll try any smoked beer they put out.
