A delicious Bavarian style Doppelbock with round smoky character contributed by beechwood smoked barley malt and a pinch of oak wood smoked wheat malt. Rich without cloying sweetness & deceptively easy drinking.

Tasted on tap at the brewery taproom.
Beautiful beer; mahogany and ruby in color, with crystal clarity. Dense, creamy head. Clean smoke leads the aromas, just a bit of warm malt behind it. Doppelbock malt flavors show through, but they share the spotlight with smokiness. Medium to light body and low carbonation make this very drinkable. Hops hold back the sweetness and alcohol is warming but low for the ABV. A great beer!
I am surprised by the significantly lower reviews on BA, but I have to call it like I taste it. I wonder if this 2025 version has had its recipe tweaked, or maybe the draft experience at the brewery makes a big difference with this beer? Whatever it is, this beer was excellent to me.

12 fl oz pull-tab can nabbed at the brewery yesterday:
9.0% ABV. "Smoked Doppelbock."
Bready. Subtly smokey. Not a terribly good combination of the doppelbock and rauchbier styles/flavours, but certainly an enjoyable brew for what it is.

Dark brown, red shows thru with light. Graham cracker/ dark bread, warming alcohol at the end. The smoke adds depth to the character, isn't over powering.

3/28/23 On tap at Live Oak Brewing, Austin TX
This brewer smokes their malts, so this is a smoked doppelbock.
Aroma is smokey, sweet, toasted marshmallow. Reminiscent of hickory smoked bacon.
Taste somewhat follows, but reminds Leah of a smokey sweet potatoe pie! Oh, my!
