Salted caramel desserts seem to be all the rage these days so when I saw this at Kinkaider in Lincoln, Nebraska not too long ago, I had to give it a whirl. This wasn't a dark beer as the style only led to my intrigue and as odd as it sounds, this actually worked since it complemented the malt nicely and wasn't terribly strong or overpowering in the end!
This had a nice, amber hue to it that was plenty bright and nearly clear, as it was topped off with plenty of full, offsetting head. No lacing was left behind as the suds subsided down to nothing not too long after I took my first sip. Loads of peanut butter, peanut brittle, salted caramel, and malt in the nose as the taste nicely followed suit. Some light macadamia nuts and peanut oil rounded out the taste as this was salty, sweet, and sticky all at the same time! This was a true dessert beer without being dark or chocolatey with just enough carbonation to keep things upbeat.
The ABV on the website differed from that on the can as that was at 5.0% ABV. Regardless, I never detected it as this was as close to a session beer as any beer of this style that I've reviewed on here. No legible date was printed on the bottom of the can but with a label and beer so fun to boot, who's to notice? Glad I gave this a go as it's apparent that Kinkaider has carved out a nice niche in the Cornhusker State!
