I stopped in during the Cubs recent run in the World Series and decided to bring my dinner with me and have a couple beers. This was beer #1 that evening.
This stout is pitch black in color and opaque with no carbonation visible. The head is a creamy, dark tan color that dissipates slowly to a thin, creamy lacing that is retained throughout the tasting. 4.25/5 The aroma is typical of the style in that it is very focused on dark roasted malt with notes of dark chocolate, vanilla, oak, molasses, and sorghum. There is a bit of an herbal quality as well which comes in as the beer warms. 3.75/5 The flavor is very sweet and with virtually no booziness despite the high abv. Sweet caramel and molasses and dark chocolate start things off before the vanilla and dark roasted grains come in. A bit of oak comes in right in the middle along with a slightly earthy note which leads into a light herbal hop profile with light bitterness that lingers ever so slightly. 3.75/5 There is a very light carbonation tickle right up front but this goes away quickly and leads into a drying (surprising due to this being a milk stout), heavy body. The dryness does not linger upon swallowing. 3.5/5 This is a good imperial milk stout that is typical of the style in terms of flavor but is atypical in terms of mouthfeel. It is still heavy (typical) but the dryness is a bit atypical with milk stouts generally featuring very little drying. Not sure if I would return to this one but I am glad that I tried it (and it went well with my dinner). 3.75/5

This was probably the worst beer of the sampler.
Dark brownish black, tan foam and spotty lace around the edges of the glass.
Aroma was lightly roasty and sweet, vague roast malt and chocolate impression.
Taste was off, a harsh lingering medicinal aftertaste drowned out any subtlety.
Mild roast and sweetness in the periphery, thin bodied and astringent.
I wouldn't drink this again. The regular Bernie is much better than this, not sure what went wrong.
