easily the best beer at gold camp on my visit. its the most interesting both from a flavor and process standpoint, and is an excellent beer overall. cool that these guys work with a one barrel system, labor intensive sure, but it allows for experimentation like this. its loosely an irish red meets a scottish ale, definitely an irish type yeast in this, with a huge grist bill that has to include plenty of specialty grains. its also aged on oak, which you can really get. there is a strong scotch whiskey character in the nose, and you can really taste it too in the finish. a nice peat element, probably some peat smoked malts, or the oak is soaked in scotch, either way, its contribution to this beer is awesome. its slick in feel, thick almost gelatinous when it warms up, but glides right down, and its massive abv is perfectly masked. there is a moderate residual sugar level, caramel and bread pudding flavors to it, and the oak brings it all together. a little low on carbonation, but with all this body and flavor, i dont wish for it. i like it as a slow moving drink, reminds me of nothing, and thats hard to do anymore. i though this was by far the best display of what this place is capable of. i would go back just for this one.
