Firkin poured at the 2014 Hopocalypse release. Reviewed from notes.
A: Served a cloudy amber color with a thick and long lasting greasy tan head that slowly faded into a rocky film.
S: Stinks of fresh grapefruit with very faint hints of biscuit scented malt poking through. Grapefruit is fresh and dominating.
T: Small sips swished around in my mouth yield sweet fresh grapefruit juice and pith. Almost doesn’t taste like beer it’s so fresh. Mild bitterness in the finish that is very grapefruity and pith/rind-like. Sweetness from the base still pokes through alongside a hint of pine.
M: Slight booze to the mouth, mouthfeel is thick and greasy with a huge hop oil quality and greasy feel. Very low smooth carbonation as expected. Sweet and bitter, just like the fruit.
O: Really solid and enjoyable beer. Dare I say a slight improvement on the original? An interesting take nonetheless. Hope they make this again.
