Also known as Foraging Raccoon

7×70 IPA clocks in at 7% ABV and 70 IBUs (hence the name) and starts with a citric burst from the Amarillo, El Dorado, and Citra hops in the boil. A lean malt bill that lets the hops really shine through with only 2-row and a touch of lightly toasted pale malt. The dry hop features a second boost of tropical citrus from Calypso hops, as well as a slap of pine from the Simcoes.

something a little different for a very classic west coast ipa brewer in my opinion. this is pretty hazy, pale almost orange in color, looks more east coast to me, thicker in the glass, less lively, no clarity. smells great though, pine driven to me, with some tangerine floating around and plenty of yeast, which oddly enough leaves a light belgian imprint on the nose. the flavor doesnt have any yeast taste too it though, weird. hoppy as they get, piney and thick, still west coasty in its hop nature, oily and sticky and aggressive. i dont get any more grain out of this, being unfiltered, than i would in a normal west coaster, which makes the decision to keep it all dreggy looking a weird one to me, although it doesnt hurt anything either. its well enough carbonated to keep moving and thus drinks easier than it looks like it should. in the end i really like the hop flavor on this, appreciate it being something a litle different from these guys, but dont think it quite captures what they were going for, if the milkshake east coast ipa was the target...

On tap at Drake's BarrelHouse

A: Pours faintly hazy golden amber with a frothy white head that settles to a thin layer and laces well.

S: Citrus zest, grassy, pine, a bit herbal, and a little light malt.

T: Pine and bright citrus, lemon, lime, and tangerine zest, a little peppery spice, kinda grassy herbal notes, light malt, and the faintest hint of tropical fruit on the finish.

M: Light to medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: Nice surprisingly light drinking brew.

Drake's can make some awesome beers. But they can't do that 100% of the time, and this, along with a handful of others prove that point.

Appearance wasn't impressive. Looked worse than homebrew, super unfiltered and muddled. Aroma was not seeming like it was dry hopped, or at least not with aroma hops. Just was meh, not imparting what you would want.

Taste, jeez, didn't taste hoppy either. This was just a mess. Instead of feeling like you were drinking a liquid, came off mouthfeel and taste wise like there was a bit of sediment/chalk/solid matter within the beer itself.

Back to the drawing board. Wait, nevermind that, how about you just mass produce the shit out of Alpha Session?

On-tap at the Dealership. 7 x 70 renamed to Foraging Racoon.

A: Served a clear lemon-golden with a cap of greasy white foam. Sticky lace was left down the glass after each sip.
S: Tons of tropical fruits, mint, and slight citrus and green hop notes. Fresh and aromatic.
T: Tropical fruit and juicy citrus hop blend. I get notes of pineapple, mango, tangerine and slight mint. Finish is fresh and juicy with a clean bitterness Minty and green aftertaste.
M: Medium body, soft carbonation, greasy hop oil mouthfeel, bitter but clean.
O: I see why they changed the name of this to the Sculpin killer. Very drinkable and flavorful.
