Had this satruday 10/24 at the brewery, not sure why this has been retired. I think this batch has ABV <5% which impressed me the amount of flavor I got from it. Barrel aged for only 4 months but the barrel character is evident. "Session" porter that had big bourbon aroma and flavor, thin mouthfeel (as compared to BA Jolly Rodger I had earlier) but not unsurprising given ABV. Very much enjoyed this for what it was, low alcohol BA porter.

Sampled in a 12 tulip glass at the brewpub.
The beer pours a blackish brown color with pretty good head retention and lacing. The nose is quite attractive in this beer, and easily it's best feature (IMHO). There is some very noticeable bourbon, along with some dark chocolate, vanilla and light coffee. The flavor profile replicates the nose, but you can tell right off that the abv. is pretty low (the menu listed it at 5.7%, which seemed about right). As a result, the beer comes across as pretty light on the palate, with a thin mouthfeel. The beer finishes well, and is enjoyable, but I just wish it had a bit more flavor and richness.
Shrug. Still not a bad beer, but at $7 a tulip, it was pretty hard not to have one of those "is this all there is" moments.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
