I'm pretty sure no one saw this one coming. I had this beer at City Beer's Barrel Aged/Strong Beer 'fest'. I was expecting what most people (same people who ignored the email sent out about the beers on tap), a fuckin imperial stout. I was excited, because I like Drake's IS, but this came way out of left field. But let's not abandon ship right away.
The beer was poured from tap into a 5 ounce glass. They had to pour it twice because there was a lot of head. The was a pale mocha head and a dark stout hue, but not pitch black (at the very bottom you could see a ruby tint). When this first hits your lips all you can taste is how sour it is. Mind you it's not THAT sour, it's just super sour for a stout. Next there are hints of wild yeast, probably from the barrel aging, and what i think might be some bread. Although this was only 5oz i took my time. Be taster soon gave was to very subtle hints of bourbon or whiskey aroma.
This is by no means a stout. It's a sour dark ale. It's deceptive, but I wasn't dissapointed, definitely a must for sour fans.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
