In 2014, we got together with Brewmaster Julian Schrago of Beachwood Brewing and brewed a classy craft Malt Liquor. We supplemented traditional 6-row barley and corn with extra-swanky Chevallier Pale Ale malt and used extremely clean hops. We liked it so much (especially in a Brass Monkey) that we decided to brew it again. This time, we upped the corn a touch to add more crispness and fermented the brew with a classic Northern European lager strain.

Best malt liquor I've had, which is no surprise since a craft brewery is making it. I acknowledge this doesn't really count though when comparing apples to apples, or should I say 40's to 40's. There's dominating pilsner and corn adjunct flavors, but I do not get any off-flavors or offensive flavors at all. Low peppery hop, slight fruity esters, slight dough. Thick body with chewy carbonation, thick and chewy mouthfeel. Heavier than some, maybe even most. I could actually drink this regularly, and am looking forward to trying the barrel aged version!
