This was another of the brut subgenre ipas that I tried at the 2018 Bistro IPA festival. Pours a golden color with good carbonation and 1/3" white head. Aroma is a dry toasted malt push moreso than hops. Gonna be kind of hard getting used to that aspect of these beers. Enjoyable, just not the usual dry hop rush I'm used to for an ipa at this place.
Taste is a clean, dry west coast ipa that drops some pine and more grapefruit in the taste wise. Brewers seem to be staying away from the proprietary hops when it comes to the small sample size of this kind of beers I'm noticing. Its a neat little subgenre, and I mean, how often have you ever had the thrust of an ipa that is its yeast? I mean, the only time I can think of is Belgian ipas, and those frankly, are some of the worst ipas out there imho. Maybe old school english malt bomb ipas were worse, but point is, yeast driven ipas, few and far between. The weird thing for me is that this is supposed to make the hops pop even more, but thus far, the few forays I've had into brut territory did not result in a more pungent hop character relatively speaking. Nonetheless, still enjoyable.
