aroma of popcorn and sweet soft french oak
2 beers in a single-barrel blend of american red and porter cellared in a port barrel (praeger portworks, 2006 royal escort port barrel). haven't figured out which type of surround sound it is yet, but the beer is definitely echoing its ancestor from port right into beerdom.
sampled this at the bistro west coast barrel aged beer festival november 13, 2010

Sampled 11/13/2010 at -bal fest 2010. From the menu:
"2 beers in a one single-barrel blend of American Red and Porter cellared in a Port Barrel (Praeger Portworks, 2006 Royal Escprt Port Barrel). Haven't figured out which type of surround sound it is yet, but the beer is definitely echoing its ancestor from port right into beerdom."
Pours dark brown/black with some red showing through. Hazy, tan rocky head, decent retention, and good lacing.
Aroma is mostly chocolate and caramel and oak. A touch of harsh roast is present but in low doses and practically non existent compared to the other aromas.
Flavor is a very chocolatey -bal aged porter. A touch of oxidized wine in the background. Bitter chocolate, low booze, and low-ish carbonation.
Body is medium and pretty darn drinkable.
