really wanting to like this beer, nice change, tobacco in the finish, pretty subdued flavors, well balanced, little sourness mid palete, sweet aroma notes, apple and bubblegum sourness in the finish

pinot noir, merlot, grenache barrels aged for three years at 10% abv

Dark brown pour, not the most appetizing looking beer, seemed to have coffee in it from the aroma, maybe just coffee malt.

Taste, I've never had Drake's IS, but I dunno if this is for me, astringent bitterness not backed up enough with malt chewiness/viscosity. Thin, wood, booze. One of my least favorite from Drake's.

A deep dark brown pour, thin 1/6" tan head. Coffee and espresso like aroma notes. Earthy, tobacco road.

Taste was overly bitter without the body to back it up. Harsh astringency and bitterness. Pulled a lot of the wood and tannins out of the barrel producing an overwhelming and not synced aspect to the beer. Alcohol too noticeable.

File under: Drake experimental brew that is below average for them especially.

Sampled 11/13/2010 at -bal fest 2010.

Pours black with brown showing through and hazy. Tan/brown head, decent lacing and retention.

Aroma is fresh oak, roast, coffee, and vinegar.

Flavor is slightly vinegary, heavy roast, caramel, hints of wine, and some booze.

Body is heavy with decent drinkability.
