A - Served a slightly hazy copper-red color with a thin ring of white head. The head faded quickly and left just a bit of lace behind.

S - Aroma is quite full of bourbon. Lots and lots of vanilla, oak, and booze. There is just a bit of rich sweet caramel malt peaking in from the background.

T - Starts off with big bourbon flavor, with strong oak and vanilla notes. Through the middle, the booziness kicks in a bit alongside some rich sweet caramel malts. They are super rich. AS the beer finishes, some of the harshness of the bourbon flavor starts to mellow, but the vanilla and oak flavors are still strong combined with some rich sweetness and booze.

M - Medium-full bodied with mild carbonation. Almost smooth with a fairly syrupy mouthfeel and quite a bit of warming.

D - Fairly drinkable. The beer was super full of bourbon. It could have used a bit more malt character to help balance out the bourbon a bit. That being said, it still drank pretty well.

A: muddy chocolate, or leather, thin ring of head, no lace.

S: fresh, heavy malt, hints of oak and accompanying vanilla from the bourbon, Carolina BBQ and smoke make their way in there too.

T: sugary sweetness that is way beyond candy, nearing rum, kind of like a De Molen I had recently, but harsher.

M: spicy alcohol heat, too much carbonation, which contributes to the harshness.

O: not sure about the bourbon, but good nonetheless. Nice too see sugar like this again, but it had way too much carbonation.

On tap at Drake's Barrel House, review from written notes.

This barrel aged beer has a chestnut brown hue, with a murky dishwater opacity. Slow moving carbonation is visible, feeding into a thin white string of tiny bubbles around the edges of the glass.

Aromas of cane sugar, dates, raisins, sultanas, woody oak spice. Pretty sweet stuff.

Flavors of honey drizzled sultanas, caramelized sugars, figs, dates, brown sugar, caramel syrup, rich buttery booze... rum?

Rich and velvety smoothness, super sweet with a telltale sting of unsubtle alcohol that brings it down a bit. A very slow fireside sipper, perfect for subzero temps outside, but not so much for an indian summer in San Leandro.
