For the 2024 vintage, the brewers start with a long fermentation on a high gravity wort for a big and burly base. Then they aged it for one year in port barrels and an additional year in cognac and rye whiskey barrels to really develop an exquisite cask character

First time with a Drake’s Headzo. 2024 version aged in port, cognac, and rye barrels. Poured cellar cool to a Glencairn glass. Aroma is discernible a foot away, sweet cognac and caramel. Color is crystal clear liquid amber, truly captivating, as though it were a fine cognac. A splash of bubbles on top, but almost an entirely still presence. Clear legs coat the sides.
This is sublime. Oily, complex, clean Fremont 5000 meets Anchorage ADWTD triple oaked sort of good. Really digging everything about this. I only bought one, thinking it might be some aggressive, fusol thin ale, but damn it’s excellent. The ABV brings warmth with the sweetness.
