A - Hazy copper-red with a finger of frothy white head. Fades medium with some nice lacing.

S - Aroma is full of brandy notes with sweet caramel malts, residual sugar, and some oak and booze.

T - Sweet caramel malts with some residual sugar and some brandy and oak. Through the middle, some booze and some stronger sweetness. The finish is a mix of brandy booze and some sweet caramel that lingers.

M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels a bit boozy and warming with some nice rich sweetness on the tongue.

D - Very drinkable. The Brandy addition here is really nice with the big barleywine base beer.

2009 First Fill. Know those coffee flavored hard toffee candies? The circular ones shaped like life-savors but with a recess in the center instead of a hole? Liquify that. Add some booze. Actually, a lot of booze... ever had a brandy alexander? That level of booze. Put in a dash of rye, or some spicy malt, and force some CO2 into the mix. Bam! Smooth Operator. If it were actually smooth, I'd freak out as all the components are there to make for a supermodel. But as is, it's a minor head jerk. Well worth looking at to be sure, but not to idolize.

On-tap at the Barrel House, aged in brandy barrels, first fill 2010.

A: garnet red, still as a pond, no head.

S: honeycomb--both the wax and the honey--raw grain or wort even.

T: Balisto or Nature's Valley granola bars, lots of grain and honey--sweet as candy sugar.

M: the alcohol burn in the throat is far too strong for this low an ABV, the body can't support it. It distracts from the great grainy taste.

O: so close to being really awesome, just too much alcohol burn. Didn't really taste the brandy. It was good though, just not great.
