Blind-tasted except for brewer, name, style, ABV%.
L- Pale gold, slightly hazy, 2mm fine-bubble white cap. Holds ok.
S- Just a tiny hint of smell. Hard to divine, possibly contemporary hops?
T- Dry, bitter + a hint of sour then a notably zesty dry sensation on my tongue. There is possibly a hint of citrus but not clearly enough to be identifiable.
F- As above it's dry enough to be drying on the tongue which is quite unusual (for my purchases). There will be malts here but they are obscured for me behind the hops.
O- Hmmm... doesn't seem much like a Helles to me, there is an absence or noticable malt of bready aspect. Seems more like a Pilsener to me, bright with prominent dry hopping and lesser malt presence. Perhaps it is a hipsterised interpretation of the style. I wonder what the burgers of Munich would make of it!
It's cleanly brewed with nothing to offend, just not doing for me what I'd hoped for, especially at the price.
440ml crafty can, bought from Cambridge Wine Merchants, BB 13/08/2023. £4.40.
Now reviwed+rated, reading the can: It does refer to 'lightly caramalised breadcrust' - hmmm not for me! They also note it contains 25% buckwheat for it's 'nutty flavour'. I suspect this recipe is pitched at a younger generation than myself.
