Our Danny Boy founder was gifted the Mac Daddy recipe from his father, who first brewed the Scottish-inspired ale with an old friend that was a retired Detroit firefighter and fellow veteran of the Army Airborne. This brew has since become our way to pay homage to a style that’s a perennial firefighter favorite. Well-balanced, robust, and malty, we craft our Scottish Strong Ale to be an easy-to-drink beer. But, be weary, laddies. It’s called a Scottish Strong with good reason.

A: Pours a relatively clear almost opaque very dark reddish brown (approaching black) in color with light to moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and faint deep mahogany colored highlights. The beer has a finger tall foamy tan head that slowly reduces to a large patch of slightly mottled thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate aromas of bready malts with moderate amounts of brown sugar sweetness. Hints of earthy hops.
T: Upfront there are slightly stronger then moderate flavors of toasted, caramel, dark, and bready malts with a light to moderate amount of caramel + brown sugar sweetness. That is followed by a slight hint of peat smoked malts and a hint of copper minerality. Finally there is a light amount of earthy hops which imparts a hint of bitterness which fades away pretty quickly leaving a light brown sugar sweetness with a hint of booziness lingering.
M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth with a hint of alcohol warming in the finish.
O: Slightly stronger than I would have expected for the style with the alcohol not completely hidden.

Enjoyed from the canned growler via a friend from work---Thanks Justin!
This nice Scottish pours a deep mahogany with a light head of off white foam that settles to a thin ring with light lacing. Nose of brown sugar sweet malts, light breaded malts, and light booze. Flavors exceed the nose with grown sugar touched light breaded malts moderately roasted and touched with a light dose of cherries that show itself on the rear of the taste with subtle light hops and nice warming strong booze. Decent mouth feel, medium low carbonation, lightly slick and smooth. Nothing overpowering and balanced. A decent Scottish, strong by the ABV, but American roasted variety by taste.
Decent
Of note, the canned version, not a crowler, is superior in almost all
categories showing an improved flavor and all around improvement.
Ratings should change with wider distribution. I would of done 3.75.
3.75, 3.75, 4.0, and 3.75 for this version which has been lurking in the
fridge for a couple of weeks.
Cheers

This beer was on tap at The Pint WL. The smell is liquid pennies. Tastes like a standard amber homebrew where the ABV got a bit too high. A punch on alcohol in the nose and on the finish. Taste has that similar penny note. Metallic and malty.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
