Took the time to travel 322 miles down to see the mighty GWARbar! Upon our arrival we were able to find a spot to park behind the building in their small lot that I can imagine will fill up quick at any given time.
Entering the bar you get to see a bar that seats possibly 15-20 people, the hostess sat us at a booth table without waiting. The table itself had scattered artwork from vintage Gwar concerts and events from the last 30 years.
Looking around there is blood spatter on most of the walls and floor. There is scumdog art scattered around. Oderus' sword hangs from the ceiling as well as Cory Smoot's (Flattus Maximus) guitar hanging on the wall. Some very cool light fixtures that are molded from the likes of Oderus and Balsac's faces on the walls from some type of possible resin.
Ever though there is a lot to look at I feel like the place could have ever more going on. In my honest opinion is seems a little unfinished. The decor is good but since this is GWARbar it should really push the limits just like the band has done for so long.
The service was attentive, our order was correct and everything was pretty good. However the longer we stayed to enjoy the place the waitress seemed like she wanted us to leave for whatever reason after my friends and I just gave the place well over $200 on food and drinks.
The beer selection is average maybe a little above average depending on what you want. The GWAR Blood Red Ale from Strangeways Brewing flows regularly there so we grabbed a pint to try. After one I switched to Bells Two Hearted. By the time we left there was a new tap list going around that looked a little better than the previous one that was on the table we arrived.
I believe the food was the best part of the bar next to some of the decor. The burgers we got were excellent the other food that others got looked great. The only issue was that the menu had a lot of "more coming soon" so I was a little bummed that the selection of food was on the limited side.
Overall I love the band, I've been a fan for a many years. I was excited to see what they had going on at GWARbar. I hope in time they really amp up everything. I'd go back in time, I just don't feel the need to rush back any time soon.
My biggest complaint was that we were there for close to three hours and during that whole time we heard a lot of good music on their radio but not a single damn Gwar song...
