This 1831 recipe is a mild, pale ale of a biscuity base with notes of citrus and peppercorn. Hot peppers provide a slight finish of peppery warmth to cure what ails you.

On-tap at Carillon Brewing Co., Dayton, OH
A: The beer is relatively clear yellow in color and has a slight amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a narrow collar of white bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of coriander seeds are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has lots of flavors of coriander seeds along with hints of chili peppers in the finish.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer has an interesting aroma and flavor with all of the coriander.

Historical recipe, therefore very hard to make a judgment and or comparison. I found this good and maybe my personal pallet hint of sour?

Malty, spice, very low carbonation. Can taste the coriander but not overwhelming. Not very balanced and not in an interesting way

4oz pour on tap at the brewery. Served in a 4oz tasting glass.
Appearance: Pale straw to golden yellow. A bit of haze to it. Very thin white foam across the top. Very little lacing.
Smell: Barest hint of coriander, and a bit of honey-like sweetness to it.
Taste: A mild beer - the coriander shows up, along with some sweetness as a balance that comes across as honey-like. The finish is mildly bitter. The description of the beer talks about the use of peppers that show up in the finish, but I didn't detect them.
Mouthfeel: Lightly carbonated, a little spicy on the tongue. Just a bit thicker than water.
Overall / Drinkability: Keeping in mind that this is a beer based upon a historical recipe, I can say that it's certainly something that is easy to drink and must be quite low in alcohol content because it seems to be engineered for drinking lots of it to wash things down with. By itself it's rather plain and simple - the spices barely pop out. But when mixed with food it seems to be a much better beer. I might want to have another one sometime to see how the beer changes as the brewers get used to the historical equipment in their brewery, but otherwise one is enough.
