Format: 75mL taster at Beervana 2014, served by the brewers.
Appearance: a very dark black colour with a thin tan head that drops away pretty quickly to a thin rocky cap.
Aroma: not much nose at all for a 'robust' porter. Just a touch of roast malts. A bit ho-hum.
Taste: again those roasted malts - perhaps some chocolate in there too. Deep Creek state that it is a "malt dominated beer with coffee and chocolate" - I would agree, but the flavours are way, way too weak, particularly for a robust porter.
Aftertaste: a malt bitterness on the finish, somewhat drying.
Mouth feel: medium in feel with a moderate carbonation. Okay.
Overall: this is not a very good beer. A demure flavour and nothing special at that. The 6.5% ABV is well hidden too - since it tastes like a mid and has no signs of the alcohol, this could be a very dangerous beer indeed.
