barrel aged stout with blood oranges, what a phenomenal beer and hilarious idea! release this right now, thats pretty cool! nice shiny near black color to this from the bottle, and a high contrast pale khaki head, as light and airy and delicate looking as the base beer is dense and intimidating. the aroma is heavy on the blood orange, zesty bitter, pulpy sweet, a little acidic, very fresh, very florida, it doesnt seem to be heavy at all, but i get a little winter spice or fruit cake batter in it, and a little booze as well. notes of brown sugar and cocoa both in the flavor, with the oranges really rising up in front of the dark roasted barley. heavy sweet honey vanilla bourbon notes come out too, roast comes back with the barrel char, spices again, orange marmalade, brown sugar, warm booze. its great beer, really, with tons of body and such a unique flavor, ramping all the way up to the finish where the orange and the whiskey unite in a really unprecedented flavor explosion. these guys are one of the best breweries in their region right now, and their beers keep getting better. this is unlike anything else i have had. yummy, even in the summer!
