Pours black with two fingers of khaki foam. Head retention is good. Aroma is lightly sour amaro liquor right on the tip, with a touch of char. Roasty, toasty malts come through carrying medium-roast, medium-bodied coffee, milk chocolate, cocoa, and toffee. Balance is pleasant, with the heat coming off clear-liquor like, and folded into the beer flavors well. Flavor profile is medium-roast, light-bodied coffee, milk chocolate, toffee, caramel, roasty and toasty malts. Sour amaro liquor makes itself abundantly clear, allowing the base stout to shine through at the start, before the liquor cuts into the profile, producing a lightly sour and twangy finish. Heat is well reduced, with the liquor and barrel molding well with the remainder of the flavor profile. Mouth feel is lightly fuzzy, and opens up velvety, but fades and breaks down into a more fizzy, fuzzy texture as the liquor cuts into the profile. It has a medium thickness. Overall, the mix of liquor and beer here is intriguing, but it all works together. The liquor itself is aged with coffee, which compliments the base stout with a coffee addition. It sits just under 10% ABV, and while it produces a little extra heat on the nose, all folds and melds together well.
