12 oz can from Plaza Liquor in KCMO.
Deep inky black with shades of brown and a creamy heavy beige head of 2 fingers, receding to 1, leaving tons of sticky lacing behind.
Aroma is not terribly complex, bringing mostly huge roasted malt and a bit of coffee. There are some pecans in there if you nose-hunt for them.
Flavor starts with roasted malt, lots of spiced coffee, a faint touch of anise, then noticeably more prevalent semi-sweet pecan, and a light shade of vanlla syrup. The pecans come back again on the back palate, with a bit of earthy/perfumey hop. The finish lingers with roasted coffee notes, dry cinnamon, floral vanilla, and liquid coffee creamer.
Feel is very roasty with a thick chewy body and quite a bit of carbonation to help it along. Moderate alcohol heat. Sticky finish, drying, and some extra heat on the finish.
Overall, this beer is enjoyable to be sure and is an easy sipper for about 20 minutes, but be aware - it's not the sweet dessert treat you're probably expecting. What you get here is more of a roasty coffee treat with some added nuance of pecan and vanilla.
Price paid : $12.99 / 4 pack
