Ok, now I am kicking myself for letting GreesyFizeek beat me to this posting. That guy just swooped in! :-)
Pours murky dull brown, with a slight off-white head that quickly dissipates leaving spotty lace on the wall of a Pretentious Beer Unique glass.
The aroma opens with toasted malt, followed by a strong sensation of mixed nuts. Faint earthy smoke lingers in the background like ground fog, while warmth brings out cocoa powder.
Fairly sweet at first, any bitterness is obliterated by the pepper spicieness. Nut flavors present over the toasted malt, while the long finish builds pepper heat. Late in the finish, just before the next sip, coffee becomes prominent.
While I tend to have a high tolerance for hot spices; this seems modest to me, with a medium body, and no alcohol presence. The soft cotton texture is punctuated by prickly carbonation.
As a Holloween evening pairing, this Chili Beer worked far better than the perhaps more obvious choice of a Pumpkin Beer. Between the spice, and Brown Ale base, this works well for any cool damp Autumn evening, especially with the smell of wet leaves and wood fire in the air, as a wolf howls in the cellar.

On tap at Swift Water Brewing Company in Rochester, NY.
This one pours a moderately dark brown, slightly dark brown, with a very small head and no lacing.
Smells like chipotle peppers, toffee, and bready malt, pretty toasty.
This feels a little bit thinly flavored, unfortunately. The chipotle flavor is pretty strong, and lingers for a long while on the palate. There's a somewhat weak brown ale, with some chocolate and toffee, and some toasty malt. The flavors aren't super strong, other than the chipotle.
This is light bodied, a little bit of a watery mouthfeel, and a moderate level of carbonation.
A little bit disappointing. This was a bit of chore to get down.
