Wow, really had high hopes for this beer. I am not sure what this beer is supposed to be, because it sure doesn't taste like any barleywine style beer I've ever had.
Look: Very muddy, brown, unfiltered. Which is fine, but not appealing.
Smell: Very bready, yeasty almost smell. Slight alcohol, not much else.
Taste: Not good, it taste like bitter cheap bread, it tastes as if the beer has been sitting on their shelves for years, I was concerned it got infected some how.
Feel: Water, basically no carbonation.
Overall, not good. Glad I didn't spend the extra money for the barrel aged variety.

On tap at Swiftwater Brewing Company in Rochester, NY.
This one pours a slightly murky dark-ish brown, with a small head, and basically no lacing.
Smells like sweet, bready malts, caramel, a bit of hoppiness, and just a slight bit of booze.
This is a really good American rendition a barleywine. It's got a little bit of hoppiness to it, some orange fruitiness maybe, with some toasty and bready malt, caramel, and toffee. Though there was some booziness on the nose, there's none to be found in the taste, which is really nice. This is really rich and impressive.
This is medium bodied, with a slightly creamy and very rich mouthfeel.
A really, really impressive stab at a barleywine here. I'd love to see this bottled, and see what some age could do with it.
