On tap at Swiftwater Brewing in Rochester, NY. I hope this is good because, by all accounts, Black Button doesn't make good bourbon.
This one pours a bit darker than the base, a dark brown, with a small head, and no lacing.
Smells like oak, vanilla, a bit of harsh bourbon, caramel, and toffee.
My fears were not found to be true, this is pretty awesome. The malt richness of the base seems to be amplified by the barrel aging, which is the sign of a good technique, in my opinion. There's barely any booziness. The bourbon is up front, with oak and vanilla following after, and some really nice sweet caramel and toffee. This is definitely better than I thought it'd be.
This is medium bodied, pretty rich and a little bit creamy, with a lower level of carbonation.
A really nice bourbon-barrel aged barleywine that can nearly stand up to some of the better examples of the style.
