On tap at Swiftwater Brewing Company in Rochester, NY.
This one pours a murky dark brown, with a small head, and no lacing.
Smells very richly fruity, and pretty boozy, with caramel and sweet syrupy aromas.
This is the lesser of the two barrel treatments of the barleywine, but it's got some potential. Unfortunately, it's draft-only, so it can't be aged in the bottle. I really think some time aging would really improve this one and help the booziness recede and the flavors to meld a little bit better together. The pear brandy lends a pretty syrupy sweetness to it, with some sweet caramel, toffee, and maybe even a little bit of maple syrup.
This is medium bodied, a tiny bit syrupy, with a lower level of carbonation.
It's always cool to try a BA beer in a pretty unique barrel, as this one is. I think some additional time aging would have helped this one, but it was certainly cool to try.
