On tap at Swifwater Brewing Company in Rochester, NY.
This one pours an actual black color, unlike the base, with a small head, and a good amount of lacing.
Smells like cookie dough, oak, chocolate fudge, roasty coffee, and very slight whiskey.
The base was extremely underwhelming for this beer, it's kind of a miracle that the barrel aged version turned out quite decent. There's a lot of really nice oak flavor here, with very slight bourbon. The base beer itself seems beefed up, way more chocolatey, with a more prominent sweetness, a nice espresso flavor, and lots of cookie dough, which is a flavor I get out of a good amount of barrel aged stouts.
The body on this still isn't perfect, as it's not quite beefy enough, or creamy enough for the style. It definitely feels more substantial than the base, though, and that's a good thing.
This was definitely fairly enjoyable. Not perfect- but still enjoyable.
