A 1" frothy tan head holds briefly, before settling to a creamy 1/4". A light trace of lace forms on the glass, while a clear, very dark brown (SRM 36-35) beer fills the glass. Dark garnet highlights show when put to the light.
The aroma has a moderate level of toasted malt, with dark bread and rye. Also noticeable are molasses, dark chocolate and light espresso. The rum is strong, up front, with a light oak. Warmth brings out some raisins.
The flavor follows the nose, with a balanced and moderate level of sweetness and bitterness. The finish is of a moderate length and strength.
A medium body and silky texture. Lively carbonation is more prominent due the the higher than expected presence of alcohol.
This is a good beer to enjoy while reading, or in place of a cocktail.
