This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a very small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like rich, thick, and smoky maple syrup, spicy oak, roasted malt, dark chocolate fudge, caramel, licorice, and coffee.
This is one of the best stouts released in Rochester, ever. There's a good bit of spicy barrel and char here, with a touch of caramelly bourbon and some vanilla. There's a lot of maple character here - it's sweet and smoky. The little bit of smokiness definitely helps from being too sweet. The base stout feels silky and chocolatey.
This isn't the thickest stout ever, but that silky body helps keep it rich and velvety. There's not a ton of carbonation - just enough to keep it from being flat.
This is really quite excellent. Swiftwater's barrel game keeps getting better and better over the years.
