On tap at Strangebird in Rochester, NY.
This one pours a dark and creamy looking black color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells like milk chocolate, bittersweet maple, chocolate covered caramel truffles, bourbon, and oak.
This isn’t the first time Swiftwater has combined BIG and their barrel aged old ale – their Barrel Blend release in 2021 was excellent. This feels just about up to par from that release – I’m not sure exactly what, if any, difference there is in the blend. It’s caramelly, oaky, and mapley, without being overly sweet. There’s lots of creamy milk chocolate, too, with some roast and coffee notes.
This is medium bodied, with very little booziness, and a really nice creamy smooth finish.
This is nice stuff, as both of the component beers are quite tasty.
