Pours black with minimal head that disappears quickly.

Taste the sweet malts and savory dark fruits mingled with toffee/treacle up front. An ever so slight to no bitter that keeps it clean to not get cloying. The barrels are definitely noticeable and well received with the alcohol making it all come together. One of my favorites, very well done indeed!

On tap at the source from their cellar. Tan head. Dark brown/black color.

Supposedly barrel aged in 3 different bourbon barrels but I get a bit of a cognac vibe as well. Must be all the raisins, figs, dark fruits, molasses, and toffee I am tasting. Caramel and chocolate. Warming spirits. Reminds me of port. Decadent and delightful. Full bodied. An incredible treat!

Very dark appearance with a slight tan head. Very pleasant slightly sweet caramel aroma. Taste is also a slightly sweet caramel with a little harsh aftertaste.

midnight sun is one of the first breweries to blow me away. lately not so much, unfortunately.

right out of the trade box (thanks Keith!) and I to the fridge. poured into a perfect stout glass
looks great in the glass, like a dark barelywine with a 1 inch mocha head
nose is fantastic! dark fruits, bourbon and vanilla. this guy smells like a barleywine!
taste- the real test, yea it fallows the nose! big dark fruit and bourbon upfront, nice chewy chocolate and vanilla. great touch of bourbon, sweet finish
mouthfeel is full and heavy, no sign of the 14% but it does get a bit sweet, not overly so
overall honestly I did not know what to expect with this one, the last few big releases have been a bit of a let down. the new vintages of barfly while still good, taste nothing like the 2011 version, nor does sloth or even Arctic devil and berserker for that matter!
that said this is freaking great! it was exactly what I was hoping for and exceeded my expectations. everyone is really beating around the bush with this one, calling it a grand cru and stating it is a Belgian dark ale, let's get real here they are attempting to make their next M, and it actually taste like they are on the right track, this is a Belgian barelywine. maybe they are afraid to call it m2 because expectations would be too high? regardless this is a fantastic brew! any fan of midnight sun and Barleywines should try this!

Keith very greatful for the chance!
