Anchorage. Part of my Alaska beer tour 2020. Bomber purchased at brewery. Buy one get one free? Sure why not.
A: Poured into a glass with big frumpy head, faint yellowish tones. Bronze-gold, slight haze and very good carbonation. Decent glass dressing.
S: Tart nose, slightly yeasty character of musky citrus-orange and wet wood. Musky barley grains with a light peppery flair. Funky tangerines, apricots, old fruit, spicy hops add mention. Yeast factor was solid, not overwhelming Belgian authentic, but not clean either.
T: First sip showed tangy and tart grapefruit. Musky citrus and barley stalks along with musky lemons. Sweet sugars with a bone dry-tart finish. Cobweb accents add to the musky feel, some wet wood and spicy, tart hops. Mentions of caramel malts. American hop usage with some pilsner malts give this a hybrid feel.
M: Dry mouthful, tart and tangy of medium weight and good effervesce.
O: Overall a solid Belgian with some American hop influence, spicy, with some moderate funk, but not enough to deter the newly initiated . Not a lot of breweries venture into the triple or Belgian style enough, nice to see Midnight sun dipping their toes in the water and getting people acquainted to this style. Bone dry finish, it is an acquired taste I'm sure locals will get accustomed to as I don’t see many review for this here. Spicy with a zip and sharp in crispness are its strong points. Musky fruit.
