Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown with little light transmission in the glass and a half finger dark khaki head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cinnamon, cocoa, lactose and vanilla. Flavor is dark toasted malt, cinnamon, nuts, lactose and a touch of cocoa. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. As promised, this is a horchata inspired milk stout. As a fan of horchata, I kind of don't get a dark malted beverage being the base for this beer, but if you are willing to accept some natural cocoa flavors in the dark malt, this works pretty well. As a matter of fact this has some nutty flavors that are reminiscent of the Spanish and North African versions of horchata, which are made from tiger nuts (actually sedge tubers). The Mexican version, which is the one I see most often is made from rice milk. This is too dark and chocolatey for Mexican horchata, but the lactose and nutty flavors are close enough. The milkiness and cinnamon do remind me of horchata. In any event, a pleasant milk stout with Mexican spicing, flavorful and creamy. Always glad to see something new from Midnight Sun.

On draft at the brewery. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It left sticky rings of lace on the glass. It smelled cinnamon, vanilla, chocolate and roasted malt. Great cinnamon taste with, vanilla, coffee, chocolate and toffee.

On tap. Khaki head. Dark brown color.
Lots of cinnamon but balanced. Chocolate and cocoa. Caramel and toffee. Creme brûlée like flavors but I could be wrong. Smooth and creamy.
